Storm & Emergency Mitigation

Emergency board-up, tarping, water extraction, and stabilization after hurricanes, tornadoes, and severe weather in SWLA.

Overview

When a storm rolls through Southwest Louisiana, the first 24 hours help determine whether damage stays contained or spreads. Gator Done LLC handles emergency board-up, temporary tarping, water extraction, drying, and site stabilization to limit further loss. Permanent roof repairs and rebuilding are completed by the appropriate roofer or general contractor after our mitigation work is documented and handed off.

Built for hurricane season in SWLA

Southwest Louisiana property owners don't need to be told what hurricanes do — Laura and Delta rewrote the rulebook for our region. Wind damages roofing and openings, rain follows, and within days an unmitigated property can develop mold in our heat and humidity. Emergency mitigation exists to break that chain: temporarily protect openings, stop water migration, extract standing water, and begin drying before secondary damage multiplies the loss.

After named storms, demand for mitigation spikes across the parish and out-of-area contractors flood in. We're local — based on Snapper Lane in Lake Charles — and we prioritize our existing clients and our 50-mile service radius when dispatch is strained. When the out-of-towners leave, we're still here, standing behind the work.

What emergency mitigation includes

Board-up of broken windows, doors, and wall openings to secure the property against weather and intrusion. Roof tarping and temporary weatherproofing to stop active water entry. Extraction of standing water and placement of drying equipment where intrusion occurred. Debris removal and stabilization of damaged structural elements so the property is safe to enter and scope.

Just as important: documentation. Before we cover or remove anything, conditions are photographed and logged. Your policy requires you to prevent further damage, and the mitigation invoice is typically a covered part of the claim — but only if the damage and the work are documented properly. We build that record as we go and hand it to you and your adjuster.

Be ready before the storm

If a storm is forecast, photograph your property inside and out before it arrives — a dated 'before' record is one of the most valuable things you can have in a claim. Know where your water main and electrical panel are. Keep your policy number and our number, (337) 884-9777, somewhere you can reach them without power.

After the storm passes, stay out of structures with sagging roofs or standing water near electrical. Call or text us as early as you can — dispatch order after a major event is first-call, first-served, and early mitigation is what keeps a water loss from becoming a mold loss too.
