Fire & Smoke Damage Mitigation

Most fire losses are only partially about what burned. Smoke travels through the entire structure — into closets, cabinets, ductwork, and rooms the fire never touched. Soot is acidic and begins etching metals, glass, and finishes within hours. And the water used to suppress the fire creates its own secondary damage, including mold risk if the structure isn't dried properly.

That's why fire mitigation starts with a full-property assessment, not just the burned area. We map smoke migration, test surfaces for residue type (wet, dry, or protein soot each clean differently), and identify which contents are salvageable before anything gets discarded. Acting in the first days after a fire dramatically increases how much can be saved.

First, we secure the property: board-up of openings, roof tarping if needed, and extraction of any standing suppression water with structural drying. Then the cleaning begins — soot removal from structural surfaces using methods matched to the residue, followed by odor treatment. Thermal fogging and hydroxyl generation neutralize smoke odor at the molecular level rather than masking it, and HVAC systems are decontaminated so odor doesn't recirculate.

Contents are inventoried, cleaned, and deodorized — salvageable items are documented and stored, and non-salvageable items are photographed and listed for your claim before disposal. Finally, fire-damaged structural materials are selectively demolished and removed, leaving the property clean, dry, odor-free, and ready for whatever comes next.

We begin on site by assessing belongings and separating salvageable contents from items that cannot be safely recovered. Salvageable belongings are carefully packed and transported to our warehouse. Every box is numbered, photographed, and inventoried item by item, with a detailed contents list that records what was removed and where it belongs.

At the warehouse, salvageable items are cleaned thoroughly to remove soot, smoke residue, and odor, then packaged for protection. They are stored in a secure, clean, dehumidified room until the property is ready for their return. The photos, box numbers, itemized lists, and non-salvageable records create a clear contents file that can support the property owner's insurance claim.

Not every fire is a total loss — in fact, most of our fire work in Calcasieu Parish is kitchen grease fires, electrical events, and dryer fires where the burn area is small but smoke damage is house-wide. These claims are frequently under-scoped because the soot on horizontal surfaces and inside cabinets isn't obvious. We scope the whole structure so your settlement covers the real damage.
